Junior Java Architect – Contract Opportunity
We are looking for a Junior Java Solutions Architect to support a major cloud migration programme as the organisation transitions key on-premise services into Microsoft Azure.
This is a high-impact role working across complex data pipelines, dataflows, and platform modernisation, providing hands-on architectural support and helping eliminate technical blockers for the engineering teams. You will act as the on-the-ground architectural presence for a globally distributed function-working closely a Senior Architect for the business unit.
You will effectively operate as a shadow for Senior Architects in the team as a UK point of contact with oversight from overseas teams, supporting decision-making and ensuring architectural oversight throughout delivery. This is an ideal opportunity for someone stepping up into an architectural role who understands what it means to design, document, communicate, and guide technology solutions-but is also comfortable rolling up their sleeves and collaborating with engineers, analysts, and QA teams day-to-day.
Must-Have Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of what it means to be an architect-solution design, documentation, diagrams, trade-off evaluation, and cross-team communication.
- Experience working across multiple programming environments with solid cross-language literacy (able to read, understand, and discuss code in several languages).
- Java expertise – essential for upcoming platform work.
- Proficiency in Python, any additional languages are welcome (reading/understanding at minimum).
- Familiarity with Azure migrations or cloud adoption programmes.
- Excellent communication skills-able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Comfort working with distributed teams and taking initiative when quick decisions are required.
