An experienced Web Development Manager with at least 5 years of web development experience is needed to join the team at this leading provider of economic data based in London on a full-time basis.
Since 1994, this company has been helping the global financial community to make informed decisions with high-quality securities reference data, corporate actions, end-of-day pricing and economic data services.
As a web development manager, you must be able to manage those who write Java, HTML, AJAX, PHP, and Python code; know SQL-based databases connected to the applications; develop unit-testing of said code; and manage the deployment of all applications and associated databases in their hosting environments.
The ideal candidate for this position must possess at least a Foundation degree or equivalent vocational qualification in computer science, information technology, or engineering.

About the Role
A web development manager is responsible for overseeing the creation and maintenance of web-based content. They work with a team of developers, designers, and other product specialists to ensure that all projects are completed on time and within budget.
Team leadership includes managing 2-3 web developers and their web application activities and setting KPIs for the team and each member.
Demonstrated previous experience in managing rewrites of outdated applications written in PHP and JavaScript is a must as you will be required to manage application conversions and upgrades on both the front-end and database environments as they are converted and or migrated.
This job is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in the office located in Kentish Town. Monday and Wednesday are mandatory in-office days, and one other day is approved by your manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a methodology to upgrade legacy applications
- Analyse, design, develop, configure, migrate or convert, test, and implement front-end solutions that leverage PHP, Python, JavaScript, and other technologies
- Revision, maintenance, and upgrades of existing and new Web processes
- Develop new processes/applications as required
- Manage 2-3 Web developers
- Training back-up staff in the event of absence due to sickness or holiday
- Any other tasks as may be reasonably required
- Develop documentation that includes business requirements and security considerations for legacy environments so that they may be updated and maintained
- Develop business requirement documents for all new web application projects in line with ISO 27001 requirements for security
- Maintain Jira and Confluence for Sprint Cycles
- Utilise Freshservice ITSM tool for change and release management and internal optimisation as well as communication of issues that require collaboration across departments
Required Experience:
- BS Computer Science, Engineering
- 5 years of web development experience
- Previous experience in managing web developers remotely
Desirable Experience:
- MSc Computer Science, Engineering
- 7+ years of commercial development and management experience
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of PHP- old and new versions, knowledge of Python
- JavaScript
- Good SQL programming skills (MySQL, MariaDB and NoSQL)
- Project Management Methodology experience
- Ability and desire to investigate innovative technologies and coding languages
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write technical design documentation
Desirable Skills:
- Certified PHP Engineer
- Linux
- SQL Query Optimisation of MariaDB; MySQL; NoSQL
- Expert understanding of accessibility and security compliance for web development
- Expert knowledge of full-stack development
