The opportunity
This role sits at the intersection of our users, our people and our technology. Your mission is to take responsibility for ensuring the Guru s technology platforms provide clear benefits to our users, developing an understanding of our user base, and translating their needs, wants and fears into a single solution. In short, you will create a platform that people love and want to use on a regular, continuous basis.
As a senior member of Guru s Product team, you will be responsible for managing and developing the User Experience Design team. You will also be interacting with teams across the company from supply chain to marketing, operations and technology, working with all to ensure the success of Guru s products, both commercially and in saving carbon.
About the role
You will be responsible for understanding the communities of users we serve, meeting these users e.g. via individual interviews or group workshops, and working with them to define the Guru platform and ensure our technology delights.
Based on this research, you will be responsible for the user experience of the platform, gathering user feedback and applying UX design techniques to optimise the experience of our users while ensuring accessibility to all, as well as using your knowledge to validate and enhance the broader business strategy.
You ll be working on both hardware and software products, with solutions ranging from those that focus on financial management and resident engagement, to the development of smart thermostats, to online platforms that improve energy system performance for network and fleet operators.
You will be skilled at getting the best out of our people and the organisations we work with so that the products you research can be delivered efficiently and effectively. In particular, you will excel at communicating externally, understanding client/user behavior, usability problems and opportunities.
Essential criteria:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in User Experience Design
- Experience working on the full UX life cycle, from research through to prototyping, user testing and high fidelity wireframes
- Solid Understanding of UX design methodologies, including experience in creating design systems and in service design
- Demonstrate experience with UX strategy, design strategy, product roadmaps, service blueprints
- Strong problem solving and user research skills
- Strong information, interaction and visual design skills
- Expert in industry standard design software (e.g. Sketch, Figma, InVision)
- Experienced in workshop facilitation
- Strong empathy and the capacity to react calmly and efficiently, even when others are stressed
- Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills, with the ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English
Desirable criteria:
- Experience mentoring junior User Experience Designers
- Good understanding of web technologies and the Internet of Things
- Experience of working at start ups and SaaS businesses, even better if they have also worked agency side and at bigger organisations
