MI5

Flexible Working: We support full-time, part-time, compressed, and flexible hours, we’re highly committed to offering remote working across the organisation, however, our ability to provide this is dependent on the role requirement.

About Us

We’re MI6, also known as the SIS. Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence. A role in MI6 will see you providing vital support to this work, within a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

The Role

As a Senior Product Manager at MI6, you’ll be part of developing and delivering valuable products for the organisation, and be responsible for deciding what products we build to help keep our organisation and the country safe.

In this role, you’ll connect products with people, building strong relationships and engaging with different areas across our organisation. You’ll focus on customers, and their most pressing problems, translating their challenges into exciting ideas that inspire our engineers to develop innovative products.

Day-to-day, you’ll also ensure all the moving parts of a project work together, giving engineers and designers autonomy and guidance while managing stakeholder involvement. As part of this, you’ll be involved in Programme Increment Planning (PI) and contribute to the management of prioritisation conflicts.

Beyond working with people, you’ll also work with numbers, managing our product budget and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations and processes. What’s more, you’ll oversee our product and delivery risks, assuring effective risk management processes are in place.

About You

You’ll have a broad and impressive product management portfolio, showing a variety of techniques at different phases of the service lifecycle. You’ll need a working knowledge of product management process and experience in leading product teams, redesigning processes, and collaborating with senior leaders and technical specialists. You’ll know how to coach teams in Agile and lean practices. You can identify and deal with potential risks and you’ll bring a DDaT (Digital, Data and Technology progression capability framework) perspective to the team. You’ll set the standard for what good looks like , sharing digital and innovative ways of working with the team and across the DDaT skills community.

But that’s not all. You’ll shine in picking the perfect project methodology-whether it’s agile, iterative, experimental or MSP-to ensure smooth and efficient delivery.

You’re someone that thrives on embracing new ideas and can lay out a clear vision and direction for the products you oversee. These strengths will be key as you work within a variety of teams, providing guidance and delivering challenging messages to stakeholders at all levels.

Training and Development

Right from day one, we’ll make you feel welcomed and fully prepared. When you join us, you’ll have an induction into the organisation, which will help you get to grips with how we operate and give you a rounded understanding of your role. And on top of that you’ll have a dedicated product leader who’ll support you as a coach and mentor.

You’ll always be encouraged to form your own personal development programme, which could include gaining additional qualifications. And on top of that, you’ll have access to training opportunities within the DDaT and innovation framework, as well as leadership and development programmes.

We’ve got plenty of tailored training, coaching, and mentoring lined up just for you. So whatever your professional goals may be, we’ll work with you to build the skills you need to excel in your role and throughout your career.

Rewards and Benefits

You’ll receive a starting salary of £90,227. You’ll also benefit from a competitive pension scheme, with generous employer contributions and some of the lowest member contributions in the public sector.

Other benefits include:

  • 25 Days Annual Leave automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service, and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
  • Opportunities to be recognised through our employee performance scheme
  • Personal Learning Budget
  • Interest-free season ticket loan
