Summary

We’re seeking a talented Full Stack Developer to join our IT Digital team at the National Trust.

You’ll be involved in building and maintaining our public-facing website and its supporting applications / APIs. We work in small cross-functional agile teams, with a positive can-do attitude, delivering business value on a regular schedule into production. The team uses a wide array of modern tech and practices, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

Salary:?Please note the advertised salary is inclusive of a £5,000 reviewable market supplement. Your base salary will be £55,000 and you will receive the market supplement as an allowance on top.

Our vision is to enable the best possible customer experience when interacting with the National Trust.

Your contractual location will be our head office (Heelis) in Swindon, however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree hybrid working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. The team meet in Heelis so there is expectation to attend the office regularly. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you’ll be doing

As the Lead Developer you will architect and implement new features and technologies. Our agile teams are proud of the quality products they produce therefore ‘quality is everything’ and this is something you must demonstrate.

You’ll care about the user’s experience and ensuring our products are accessible. Collaborating with our UI/UX designer to turn designs into production-ready features.

You’ll be involved in delivering changes across the full software stack: from front-end Typescript React applications, Java/Spring microservices, a range of databases, AWS cloud infrastructure and services.

Assisting with the maintenance of our CI/CD pipelines built upon Jenkins / GitOps / Kubernetes, you’ll also collaborate with our WebOps team to build out new cloud infrastructure or troubleshoot production incidents.

You’ll actively keep up to date with the latest industry trends and will have the ability and interest to learn new skills as part of the role.

Who we’re looking for

For this position we’re looking for someone who has:

  1. Worked using an Agile Software Delivery approach and have experience of working within a highly collaborative and cross-functional Agile environment.
  2. A background in development and maintenance of web-based product solutions with a focus on quality, performance, reliability, scalability, and resiliency.
  3. Able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of using software engineering tools and best practices.
  4. Brings the following Core Technical Experience to the role:
  • Java 11+ enterprise web development
  • Spring, REST/GraphQL APIs and Microservices
  • Experienced with modern web frameworks (e.g., React single page apps, Javascript / Typescript)
  • Experienced with containerization (Docker / Kubernetes)
  • Experienced with database technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Mongo, Postgres)
  • Experienced with Maven, Git and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins)
  • Experienced with (or tools similar to) the Atlassian Product suite including Jira, Bitbucket and Confluence
  • Experience building and architecting cloud native applications (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Serverless, Event-driven architectures)
  • Experienced at reviewing team members code
  • Enthused by Unit, Functional and Integration Testing
  • Familiar with BDD and Cucumber and with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana
