This role will be based in Swansea and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site. This gives you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs, and also allows for ongoing support, development and collaboration with colleagues. Job description

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to build upon your skills and experience while working on digital services that will be used by millions of people every day.

Working as part of a team of Interaction Designers, you will play an important role in improving our services and user experience by contributing to the design of digital user journeys.

DVLA is recognised as a Centre of Digital Excellence and you will be joining a digital community that actively shares knowledge and ideas, and will be provided you with ongoing support and mentoring to develop your digital career in the Civil Service and to build your knowledge of Government Digital Service standards.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

• Supporting the development of digital services

• Creating prototypes and concepts to communicate and test ideas with users and improving with evidence

• Presenting designs to a wide range of stakeholders, explaining design decisions and how user needs are being met

• Ensuring understanding of user centred design by working collaboratively with colleagues in both Service Design and digital delivery disciplines

• Being an advocate for users and understanding user needs to design simple, effective and accessible services

• Acting as an advisor to the delivery team, promoting interactions that users need to achieve a given objective

About You

We are looking for creative and user-focused individuals who have experience working as part of a team and contributing to the design and delivery of products or services.

You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop wireframes and prototypes based on quantitative and qualitative evidence of user needs as well as organisational outcomes.

You have strong communication skills, with the ability to listen to and understand the needs of stakeholders, manage their expectations, and to talk with confidence about your work with wider audiences.

You know how to work collaboratively and enjoy working with others to achieve results, and will be a vocal advocate for user centred design that will make services simple and easy to use for all user groups.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

We are closely monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus, and will be following central Government advice as it is issued. Please tailor your CV & Personal Statement to provide evidence of:

• Practical experience of interaction design including creating wireframes and prototypes for testing

• Experience of working collaboratively with others to deliver on projects and pieces of work to a high standard

Your Personal Statement will be limited to 500 words.

The sift is due to take place from 12th August 2022.

Interviews are likely to be held week commencing 29th August 2022.

Interviews will be conducted remotely via video using Microsoft Teams, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

We ll try to meet the dates we ve set out in the advert. But there may be occasions when these dates will change. We ll give you plenty of notice of any important dates.

The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment will include:

• An interview

If you are invited to interview, you will be asked to present a portfolio that demonstrates at least 3 distinct deliveries that you have worked on. This will take up to 30 minutes, followed by a formal interview.

You re encouraged to become familiar with the role profile, as you may be assessed against any of the criteria recorded within.
