As an interaction designer, you’ll be part of the user-centred design service. We’re a growing team of content, interaction and UX designers, and user researchers. You’ll work closely with your clients to up-skill them and share your expertise as a UCD consultant.

You’ll be responsible for designing the user journey, interaction points and UI elements that allow a user to interact with a service.

What you ll do in this role

  • Draw together the client s business requirements, user needs and technical capabilities. Your goal is to develop a design solution that works well for users.
  • Design digital services and products.
  • Design solutions at the appropriate fidelity ranging from paper to interactive prototypes.
  • Iterate designs based on insights from user research and data.

You ll suit this role if you:

  • can demonstrate good practical knowledge of accessibility standards and responsive and adaptive design
  • have an appreciation for the customer experience on channels beyond digital
  • have experience or knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • can clearly explain your design choices and persuade stakeholders of the importance of interaction design
  • thrive in a multidisciplinary team seeking feedback, and sharing ideas and approaches
  • understand agile processes
  • enjoy working with clients as they evolve and adapt.

To be successful you ll be:

  • naturally curious and able to champion your own learning and development
  • an advocate for user-centred design
  • respectful and tactful in your approach to clients who perhaps aren t as familiar with user-centred design
  • proactive and will take the initiative to solve a problem rather than seeing it and ignoring it
  • keen to share your knowledge and experience.

Bonus nice-to-haves

  • You ve experience in another UCD specialism (user research, content design, service design).
  • You ve some front-end development skills that support building interactive prototypes in code.
  • You re familiar with working with developers.
  • You ve a strong understanding of GDS and designing to government service standards, preferably on projects that passed assessment.
