3 Month Contract

Based in Southwark, London

£31.62 PH (36 Hour Week) Inside IR35, VIA Umbrella

Support the company’s communications work by providing expertise and delivery across multiple communications disciplines and key service areas to help the company achieve its objectives.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Support the development and delivery of high-profile communications and campaign plans.

  • Take lead responsibility for key work areas. This includes working autonomously to write and deliver joined-up campaign plans for key service areas.

  • Identify and capitalise on opportunities for positive PR for the company as part of your work area through a mix of tactics.

  • As appropriate, commission and evaluate graphic design, video content, digital advertising, outdoor advertising, editorial work and more, writing detailed briefs that will be required as part of campaigns you’re working on.

  • At times capture simple video or other content yourself, working with staff and residents, for use on company channels

  • Support the delivery of key communications channels such as enewsletters and social media, through regularly contributing high-quality content relevant to, but not limited to, your work area, and help to support the management of these channels.

  • Take part in rotas to manage incoming requests for communications work.

  • Create strong relationships with key contacts relevant to your work area so that you become a trusted and reliable communications contact.

  • On an on-going basis evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns you’re working on and share learning with colleagues so that we can do more of what is working, cease ineffective activity and make room for further innovation.

  • Develop service subject matter expertise within your work area to enhance the communications support you are able to give.

  • Provide regular reports and updates to colleagues in the communications team and other service areas about the impact of your work and success.

  • Ensure good value for money in our communications work.

  • Practise and champion plain English and accessibility of information at all times, to ensure our content reaches the widest possible audience.

  • Keep up-to-date with current trends in local government communications and communications more broadly so that our campaigns can be as impactful as possible.

  • Take a pro-active approach to your own learning and development

  • Adopt an iterative and outcome-focused approach to communications work. Provide insight as to which key messages, visuals and channels create the right sort of engagement.

  • Where appropriate, experiment with innovative and creative approaches to communications, feeding back on success.

  • Take an active role in communications and service team meetings, adding communications-related advice and expertise at appropriate opportunities.

  • Actively promote an inclusive approach to equalities issues through the application of the Company’s equalities practices and procedures and in accordance with relevant legislation.

Knowledge, including educational qualifications:

  • Knowledge of online and offline marketing techniques and how to deploy them and evaluate their effectiveness.

  • Educated to degree level or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and aptitude.

  • Ability to write and deliver an effective marketing, communications and engagement plan

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of local government and the context in which it operates.

Experience:

  • Experience of communicating with people using a range of different channels.

  • Experience delivering inspiring and outcome-achieving campaigns.

  • Experience of engaging with people at all levels of an organisation and in a variety of different roles, adapting personal style to suit the circumstances

  • Working with and supporting senior managers at a strategic level and ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism.

Aptitudes, Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with different internal and external audiences including staff, the public and councilors.

  • Ability to work with designers, videographers and others with the ability to brief and evaluate content development.

  • Excellent written skills with the ability to write for different channels and mediums, and excellent knowledge of plain English.

  • Excellent verbal skills with the ability to talk confidently with internal and external stakeholders in one-to-one and group settings.

  • Flexible approach to work and adaptability to meet changing work requirements

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritise and progress work and have good attention to detail.

  • Ability to work iteratively and in an outcome-focused way with the confidence to use data to inform approaches.

  • Emotionally intelligent, self-aware, and keen to constantly develop your work and approach based on feedback.
